PLANETREE STUDENTS PRESENT POSTER AT 2018 CONFERENCE!
by Wena Lee Luansing @WenaBSN
We started with a dream to attend the 2018 Planetree International Conference on Person Centered Care. Hollie Baptista Saldana, our Student Chair, had attended in 2017 and asked Bernie from Planetree if she could invite more students. In the year following, it went from a dream to reality.
What made it even more rewarding was the possibility of presenting at the conference. Prior to the poster submission, Hollie thought it would be a great idea to talk about being part of the first-ever educational institution in the world to be Planetree certified - from the student perspective. It was an honor to be selected to present our perspective and during the conference, we met with educators from Canada who were inspired by what we created at National University. Our poster was well-received!
During the conference our social media correspondents were busy informing Facebook and Instagram followers of event happenings. This included Janette Moreno, Stephanie Rangel and Rizza Angadol. They had a very busy day volunteering at the event and kept everyone informed!
We grew to 66 members since our founding in April/May 2017
Our committee has plans to grow to over 100+ members
Our first partnership was with Sharp Coronado in October 2017
We have since hosted 4 Ask-An-Alumni Nights, Appreciation Grams Fundraiser, a Wellness Fair with one more set in 2018, and have an upcoming Family Picnic/Beach Cleanup in October 2018
We were able to provide 14 volunteers for the conference - most importantly, exposed them to what Planetree is all about

Reb Close, MD (left) and Casey Grover, MD (right) are both emergency physicians at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. They are two physician leaders of the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative. They speak about the prescription drug addiction and resulting death issue of the peninsula.
Through a partnership with Planetree.org, we interviewed speakers presenting at this year's Planetree International Conference on Person-Centered Care. Through a select set of questions we hope to introduce you to them and give you a glimpse of the ideas being cultivated and the people who are a part of it.
