Daily Affirmation:
“I will focus on what I love to get me through this”
Good morning friends,
Think of two things that you love. Write them down on a piece of paper (this will help sink it into your mind) and read them out loud. Keep this paper out to remind you throughout your day.
It is important if we feel negative thoughts creeping in our minds to STOP the thought and replace it with a positive one. Take a deep breath and say, “I will focus on what I love to get me through this.”

Daily Affirmation:
“Self-Care is not selfish. I cannot serve from an empty vessel.”
Why is self-care so important? An important reminder to students from Stanford University:
“Prioritizing our own needs isn’t always an easy thing to do. And focusing on self-care can be especially challenging for students, as day-to-day rhythms are oftentimes flooded with too much to do and not enough time. But self-care for students is crucially important—we must slow down as frequently as necessary and pay attention to our individual needs in order to be our best selves.” (Kirst, 2017)
Take the time to meet these basic needs:
Headspace → Guided meditations on subjects like focus, exercise, and sleep; daily meditation topics; “SOS” sessions for panic and anxiety; option to buddy up with friends and meditate together
Simple Habit: Meditation App → Wellness and sleep recommendations by psychologists, therapists, and mental health experts
Motivation - Daily quotes → Quotes to help you get through difficult times or just if you need some inspiration; customizing options

A few ideas to work on your inwards self while the outside world is gone

“Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the
unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work.” Mother Teresa In the coming days and weeks, you will receive daily affirmations and tools each morning to try to lift the heavy and somber mood hanging over the world.
Historical Outlook
Since the turn of the Millenium, there have been many epidemics and outbreaks, among them, are West Nile Disease, SARS, MERS, Ebola, H1N1, and many more. In any other time in history, each of these outbreaks could have resulted in the sort of lockdowns we are seeing now. As difficult a time as it can be right now and as easy as it is to put blame on others, we should remember that we have been very fortunate compared to any historical measure. The last large lockdown in the US was in the 1950's, that’s 70 years. That’s pretty good. Maybe next time, we’ll be able to make it 80 years.

"I am the creator of my life. My past doesn't predict my future."
In the coming days and weeks, you will receive daily affirmations and tools each morning to try to lift the heavy and somber mood hanging over the world.
Historical Outlook
Building the Panama Canal failed twice due to epidemics of Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, and Malaria that killed tens of thousands of workers. At this point, no one knew the source of these infections and as such were incapable of fighting it. Then came Colonel Gorgas. He used his experience and expertise and meticulous attention to detail to prove to the world that these viruses were transmitted by mosquitos. With tireless work, he eradicated these mosquitos from the canal zone and construction continued. He gave a world a model so that in the following 100 years, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, and Malaria are on a march toward eradication.
Currently, we are asked to pay attention to small details to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Let's follow Colonel Gargas's example and even when it's hard, unpopular, and tiring, remember our role in history.
Positive Outlook
One of the largest sacrifices working professionals and students have to make is to be apart from their families for long periods of time. It's common for parents to miss mile-stones of their young ones, or to go long periods of time without calling the elders of the family. Sacrificing one's family has only happened in the last few decades. This is a time to find that love within us that has driven people to do miraculous things in the past and makes a life worth living. During these weeks of home time, see if these relationships can be rekindled. Over the next weeks, let's see how fulfilling and strong these relationships can become, these relationships that were on life support when the pandemic began. Maybe, they can develop to the point where the enormous cost of this pandemic will seem cheap in retrospect.
